Inmate Automated Operator Services (IAOS)

I.C.E.(Inmate Call Engine) supports Inmate Automated Operator Services (IAOS) as a standard feature.  When IAOS is enabled, it completely automates collect call processing so that you can completely restrict inmates from contacting a live operator.  The following features may be selected according to site requirements:

  • Announcement including caller's recorded name
  • 24/7 Real Time Operator Assisted Inmate Prepaid Collect (Automated and Live Operator hybrid)
  • Automated Billed Number Screening
  • Automated Inmate operator service for collect calls
  • Automatic generation of billing data for Telephone company billing purposes
  • Complete call rating and costing system
  • On-line rate quotes
  • User selectable language prompts

In a typical application, I.C.E. with IAOS qualifies the called number's credit eligibility using automated Billed Number Screening (BNS).  I.C.E. sends a BNS query regarding the called number to the appropriate Line Information Database (LIDB).  Based on information about the number's phone equipment type (e.g., pay phone) or other billing restrictions, I.C.E. IAOS determines if the called number is appropriate and credit worthy.  During the lookup processing, I.C.E. IAOS records the caller's name and recites it to the called party on answer.  I.C.E. IAOS only connects the call if it receives positive acceptance of the call, such as a digit dialed by the called party.  Once the call completes, I.C.E. IAOS automatically generates a call detail record for the call that includes billing information.

If the called party does not answer after a preset programmable number of rings, I.C.E. disconnects the call and announces to the inmate that the call was not answered and that he or she should try again later.   The I.C.E. also detects and disconnects calls to answering machines.

I.C.E. determines whether to provide automated operator services on a per call basis according to call type.  You can program the system to provide IAOS for all call types (all calls), or only for certain call types.  For example, you can program I.C.E. to provide IAOS for only Local and IntraLATA/Intrastate calls, while sending all other calls to the InterLATA service provider network.  I.C.E. only provides IAOS for collect calls (dialed 0+ by the inmate).
